LINA'S IDEA

One day, Lina's Mum came back from the hospital. She brought Lina a new baby brother, Angelo.

As soon as Angelo got indoors, he cried. He cried so loudly that he made Lina cry too.

Soon Lina stopped crying but her baby brother Angelo cried louder. "He needs feeding", Mum said.

Lina stayed next to her while Mum fed her baby brother. Before long, Angelo stopped crying.

In the afternoon Angelo cried again. This time he cried after his food. "He needs his nappy changed", Dad said. So Lina and Dad changed Angelo's nappy and Angelo soon stopped crying and fell asleep. In the evening Angelo cried. He whimpered after his food. He wailed after his nappy change. "He's tired", Mum said. "he needs rocking". So Lina gently rocked Angelo to sleep.

In the morning Angelo cried again. He squealed after his food. He squalled after his nappy change. "He needs a bath", Dad said. So Lina and Dad gave Angelo a bath. They dried him and dressed him and Angelo fell asleep.

In the afternoon Angelo woke up and cried and cried. Dad fed him. Mum changed his nappy. Angelo still cried. "Perhaps he's bored", said Lina. She shook his rattle. Angelo bawled.

Angelo 's face was as red as a plum. "Perhaps he wants his teddy", said Dad. So Lina gave Angelo his teddy. Angelo howled. "Perhaps he wants a cuddle", said Mum. So Lina gave him a cuddle, but Angelo did not stop crying. Lina decided she had to cheer Angelo up. She made squeaky duck squeak. Angelo cried. She played a tune on her drum. Angelo screamed. Lina did a handstand. Angelo howled. Then Lina did cartwheels. "Look Angelo !" she said. But Angelo was too busy crying. Lina tried everything, but nothing stopped Angelo crying. Then Lina had a brilliant idea. She put on her ear muffs. They were pink and very fluffy. Lina couldn't hear Angelo's crying now! Peace at last ! She looked so funny that Mum smiled. Then Dad smiled. And when Angelo saw her, he stopped crying. "Look ! He's smiling !", said Mum. And Lina smiled too.
